The design unit of Tianjin National Maritime Museum is a joint team composed of COX Architecture of Australia and Tianjin Architectural Design Institute. The design creativity of the museum adheres to the design core of "form follows function" and takes "open form" as the core concept. It uses metaphorical non-linear techniques and flowing architectural vocabulary to make the whole building divergent, spreading from land to sea and suspended above the sea. The museum's architectural design is unique, with beautiful and non-figurative shapes. Four winding curves stretch from the lush waterfront park to the ocean, triggering people's infinite imagination of ocean exploration. The museum covers an area of 150,000 square meters and a construction area of 80,000 square meters. There are six exhibition areas and 15 interconnected exhibition halls, covering many aspects such as nature and ocean, world marine civilization, Chinese marine culture and historical ships. In addition, the design of the museum also incorporates rich marine biological forms. Walking in the atrium, it feels like being in the belly of a whale, providing a unique visual experience. There are many theme pavilions in the museum, covering the fields of nature, archaeology, history and humanities, and showing rich maritime civilization and patriotism education content.
